La Grange Celebrates a Birthday!

The Village of La Grange is turning 140, and you're invited to the party! Join the fun at noon outside Village Hall at 53 S. La Grange Road. The event will include local elected officials and civic leaders, who will cut a giant birthday cake created by ARACELY'S BAKERY.

There will also be giveaways for children and a drawing to win $100 in La Grange Business Association gift certificates good at lots of local shops and restaurants. A vintage classic car, over-sized balloon arch and a large photo frame for families will be on display for photo opportunities. The LA GRANGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY will have a fun tent.

The birthday party kicks off a month of fun promotions celebrating the Village’s 140th anniversary from August 8 -- September 8:

Special events include a FAMILY GAME NIGHT hosted by FAIR GAME and the LA GRANGE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (LGBA) where families are encouraged to play checkers, chess, and more together outside on colorful game tables on August 15.

PALMER PLACE celebrates "Parrot Head-style" with Sandy beach, Coronas, Palm Trees, great food, and tasty jams by Kickin Jimmy beginning 7pm on August 17.

Test your local trivia knowledge with the LA GRANGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY at Trivia Night on August 28 at FOURTEENSIXTEEN.

LA GRANGE-OPOLY, a limited edition board game that features local businesses and iconic properties including Lyons Township High School, the historic Stone Avenue Train Station, and the La Grange Theatre, will be sold at ANDERSON'S BOOKSHOP, FAIR GAME, TATES OLD FASHIONED ICE CREAM and HORTONS ACE HARDWARE.

TATES will feature a special ice cream flavor crafted exclusively for La Grange's birthday. Go on a hunt for 140 wooden nickels hidden around La Grange through Sept. 8, each redeemable for a delicious scoop of ice cream.

Local restaurants including FOURTEENSIXTEEN, NICKSON'S and POSTO 31 are showcasing signature “throwback” cocktails inspired by recipes from the late 1800s.
